Introduction to contemporary dance: The body as a playground

These classes are designed to enhance the motor, perceptual and expressive abilities of the participants by getting to know the tools of the language of contemporary dance.

Through bodywork, we aim to offer a space that enables active and flexible play with oneself and in relationships with others, space, music and imagination. We will discover our physical potential through the study of movement, body awareness and the pleasure of moving.

We will combine open exploration tasks with more guided exercises that help us deepen and expand the infinite possibilities of movement, making the body more flexible, toned and articulated so that it becomes more available. We will also stimulate each person's creativity.

Intended for people interested in training and working with the body as an expressive tool.

** Payment and class recovery policy: Each student can recover 2 classes if they take the entire course and 1 class if they take half a course, by coming to a session of another course organized by La Visiva (Introduction to contemporary dance with Mireia de Querol, Introduction to contemporary dance with Maria Hernando or Practices around the body and creation with Èlia Genís). Once the course payment has been made, money cannot be refunded, nor can sessions be saved for another course or quarter.

Biography

Mireia de Querol Duran

Choreographer, dancer and contemporary dance teacher, resident in Barcelona. As a choreographer, she has worked since 2012 with the artists Anna Rubirola and Cecilia Colacrai, forming the Big Bouncers collective, with whom they have created several pieces. Their latest piece PLATA has won the Critics' Awards for Best Street Show (2024).

In collaboration with Ursa Sekirnik she has created the pieces Bestiari Dixit, within the framework of Balla'm un llibre, organized by the APDC (2022), and Interlúdic, a project that won the Practical Methods grant at the Graner (2024). She recently collaborated with Lola Lasurt on the Heliofilia project, within the framework of Manifesta 15, Barcelona.

She is part of Group la Bolsa, a group of stage research and live creations that has collaborated with Thomas Hauert and Cia.Mal Pelo. As a solo choreographer she has created several pieces, of which the solo I tots els altres (2011), was the winner of the 3rd Prize at the Baltic Movement Contest in Gsansk, Poland (June 2011).

As a dancer she has worked in several productions with Cia.Mudances, directed by Àngels Margarit and with the choreographer and dancer Albert Quesada. She has also worked with the choreographers Kenzo Kusuda (Holland), Arantxa Sagardoy and Sebastián García Ferro (Spain).

She has been managing the residency space La Visiva since 2014. She has co-directed the contemporary dance exhibition Mostra IN SITU (2012-2016), and has curated the 2nd and 3rd Jornada Motors de creació (APDC/CCCB).

As a teacher, she has taught contemporary dance, improvisation and composition since 2007 in various centers in Barcelona and Catalonia and has been part of the CSD team of the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona (2016-2021). She has participated in several educational projects with the Big Bouncers Collective and individually such as: En Residència (2018), Tot dansa (2018-2021); and has conducted numerous workshops for families and children in various contexts and formats. Since 2022 she has been part of the Caixa d'Eines pedagogical project, led by El Graner.
