The **ONA / SHE** project will be based on the creation of an alter-ego of a mermaid. She is a woman who discovers her body and her capabilities through movement and voice. The mermaid represents this woman and is the one who takes the power of beauty and seduction into her own hands, faces her fears and accepts her powers. The piece will create a space where mysticism and imagination blur the border between the real and the surreal.
She is just one of many, a meeting of generations of women, who crossed the borders of patriarchal standards and, therefore, were called as a kind of witches, often forcefully silenced or even punished for expressing their voice. But she is no longer hiding, she is ready to shout with a voice that is not only hers.
“Her voice is soft. It captures you more and more. It doesn’t stop. It’s as if you possess it, as if there’s no way to avoid being closer to it. Without warning, it transforms, grows, expands. It takes over. It takes over space, the body, time. It can no longer be controlled. It’s out there and there’s no way to get it back in. Once the voice is freed, it takes on its own entity, a manifestation of the generations that are no longer here, a cry that is not just hers. A cry of those who still have scars, of those who were never able to scream.”
